African festival brings colour to Townsville


COLOURFUL traditional dress, dancing and drums will feature at Townsville’s African festival this weekend.

Organised by the community organisation Spirit of Africa, locals will be able to get a taste of African culture at Riverway Park in Thuringowa on Saturday from noon to 9pm.

Events organiser Tom Phiri said the festival was in its eighth year, and was rapidly growing.

“The reason why we are holding it is to showcase Africa, to show the people the good side of our culture,” he said. “We will be able to answer questions about Africa. Not many people know how big it is or that it currently has 54 countries.
