African Children’s Choir experience the Whaling City – News –

NEW BEDFORD — After performing in the city Saturday night with the South Coast Children’s Choir and the Sargent Carney Academy Select Chorus for the first time, the African Children’s Choir did some sightseeing downtown.

“I love its rich history, especially pertaining to the whaling industry,” said Timothy Kawuma, 26, team pastor and head teacher of the 48th African Children’s Choir group. Kawuma himself was in the 19th group when he was younger and like the kids, it was his first visit to New Bedford.

Sunday morning into the afternoon, the African Children’s Choir saw a 20 minute film on New Bedford, visited the New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park led by Park Ranger Rufai Shardow who’s from Ghana and toured…
