African American groups encouraging women of color to vote

(CBS) — “Learning more and getting other people to come out and vote.”

That’s why Gabrelle Taylor took part in a discussion by Higher Heights to promote African-American women in politics.

“Our objective is, is just to get more black women involved,” said Miranda McDonald, a volunteer for Higher Heights.

In 2016, 94% of African American women supported Hillary Clinton over President Trump. and last year, a whopping 98% backed Alabama’s Doug Jones – the first Democrat to win in 25 years.

“Black women are responding to the current political moment,” said Adrianne Shropshire.
