African American Cultural District Proposed In Bayview Hunters Point


San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Malia Cohen introduced legislation Tuesday to establish an African American Arts and Cultural District in the city’s Bayview and Hunters Point neighborhoods.

Cohen said the area is made up of “a vibrant community that holds a wealth of knowledge, history and cultural tapestry of the African American experience in San Francisco.”

“San Francisco’s African American population faces consistent challenges related to outmigration. It is important that we protect the narrative of the people and history of this neighborhood,” she said.
