A jury will decide the case against a police officer charged with shooting a teen

CHICAGO, Il. (NBC News) The case involving a Chicago police officer charged with shooting a teenager in 2014 will be decided by a jury rather than a judge.

Attorneys for JasonVan Dyke made the announcement in court Friday. Van Dyke, a white police officer, is charged in the fatal shooting of black teenager Laquan McDonald.

This week, the court vetted and selected 12 jurors, made up of seven whites, three hispanics, one African-American and one Asian-American.
