12 in custody following police exercise in POS

Twelve persons – including a Venezuelan national – are currently in police custody, following police exercises in the capital city.

The exercises were conducted by officers of the Port of Spain CID, led by Snr Sup Ajith Persad, with assistance from Sup Hercules, and ASP Corbett and ASP Maharaj, among several others.

The officers detained several persons between the ages of 17 and 34 for a variety of offences, including being in possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, and inquiries into shooting related offences and robbery related offences.

Several persons were also detained on outstanding warrants.

Among those held was a 27-year-old Venezuelan national who police said was in the country illegally.
